Clinical Trials Network Consortia
Oncology Consortium
The Oncology Consortium focuses on developing cancer care within the Network and opening national-level clinical trials in VISN1 VA hospitals. This group maintains an active membership in the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) that allows VA patients access to National Cancer Institute trials.
- Consortium Lead: Michal Rose, MD
Mental Health Consortium
The primary aim is to support VISN1 veterans by expanding access to mental health research studies through a collaborative approach between all VISN1 medical centers. Additionally, the consortium is closely aligned with the Career Development award to assist early career investigators within VISN1 to obtain VA funding.
- Consortium Lead: Kelly Harrington, PhD
Women’s Health Consortium
The primary aim is to develop a VISN-wide network of women’s health research to improve access to VA and community-based care, improve health outcomes and provide opportunities for women Veterans to participate in clinical trials.
- Consortium co- lead: Kristin Mattocks , PhD
- Consortium co- lead: Lori Bastian, MD
Military Toxic Exposure Consortium
The primary aim of the CTN Toxic Exposure Consortium is to ensure Veterans in VISN 1 can contribute to and benefit from research regarding the health effects of toxic exposures. Prior CTN Consortia – the Oncology and cardiology Consortia, and notably the Research Precision Oncology Program (REPOP) – have demonstrated how partnership between the clinical and research arms of the VA lays the foundation for a rapid learning healthcare system. Given the current lack of knowledge about the health consequences of toxic exposures, this partnership continues to be critical to best serve Veterans who experienced toxic exposures during their service.
- Consortium co- lead: Gaurav Chaudry, MD
- Consortium co- lead: Jacob Joseph, MD
Cardiology Consortium
The VISN1 Cardiology Consortium is a unique initiative with the goals of expanding clinical cardiology research, advancing patient care, and supporting quality improvement across VA sites in the network. We plan to capitalize on each site’s individual interests and unique strengths to form a strong collaborative group focused on research and the care of the VA’s distinctive population.
